How to write a resume (Curriculum Vitae)
I. How to write a resume (Curriculum Vitae)?
1.
Contact
information
- F
In
this field write your name in bold or bigger font
- F
Write
your full address and P.O. box
- F
List
your tel. numbers with an international dialing code.
- F
Add,
if applicable/possible, your personal e-mail address in case you check it
regularly, - you don’t want to make the employer wait for an answer. The
address itself ought to be a serious (something like tintirimintiri@yahoo.com is not a
good idea)
2.
Education
and additional qualification (decide for yourself which one is better for the
second position – your education, or your professional experience. Let it be
education if you have recently graduated or still studying.)
- F
First
write the university you have graduated at, the major and your qualification
degree.
- F
It’s
important here to state the dates you started and finished your education. If
you have not graduated yet, it is accepted to write the date of expected
graduation.
- F
In
case your high school education is specialized (e.g. language priority,
mathematical high school, natural sciences high school …) make sure to list it
in this section.
- F
Additional
courses and earned certificates can be mentioned in an individual section.
3.
Professional
experience (if you proud of your professional achievements, more than you are
proud of your education, put this section on second place)
- F
You
can arrange this section basically in 2 ways:
· Chronological – list the position
you have been hired on in an opposite of the chronological way, e.g. from the
most recent position to the first one.
· Functional – group the positions
you’ve worked on according to the field they are related to. This approach is
recommended to people who often change the company they work for.
- F
To
make the picture of your professional experience clear, you should add a note
about the type of the job you’ve been doing, your place in the company
structure, what is the position above and below yours.
- F
If
it’s possible, combine or shorten some of the positions. Thus you won’t leave
the impression in the employer that you’re non-persistent.
- F
Don
not try hiding the name of a company you’ve worked for, because it leaves
negative messages in the employer’s mind, either you would discredit yourself
with this information or that you doubt the professionalism and business ethics
of the employer.
4.
Professional
skills.
- F
It’s
natural to have valuable skills which don’t result from professional experience.
In this section list all of those skills which are relevant to the position
you’re applying for.
- F
Make
sure to add here all languages you have command of and the degree on command,
as well as your computer skills.
- F
Decide
for yourself whether you’ll write the common “communication skills,
organization skills, ability to manage people, analytic approach in problem
solving and decision making”
5.
Additional
information: it is discussed these days how much can personal info affect your potentional
employer. A considerable number of the employers hire people on the basis of
this personal information, e.g. on personal like or dislike, neglecting the
professional skills of the candidate. In this case, you should decide what to
announce in your resume and what to keep for yourself.
6.
Recommendations:
· Recommendations from previous
employer will be highly evaluated
· Whether you should specifically name
your recommenders or just say that recommendations are available is a disputed
question
